Ironclad gloves

Anyone ever use these or seen them before. Look like nice gloves. Saw ad in Overhaulin' mag on a recent trip.

I wouldn't use rubber coated gloves for welding - probably OK for welding itself, but as soon as you pick up something hot you'd be in trouble. The ordinary welding gauntlets are good - a bit thick but they go over your sleeves to stop molten blobs of metal going down them.

Doesn't look like the silicone would be an issue since the inner and outer shell is a Kevlar weave. I also hve some sleeves to wear to protect my arms. Wil have a pair in a few days. I'll post some results once I give them a try.

Are we talking 67 455 Firebird or T Bird? I have a 67 Chevy C10 truck with a 350.

I had a look through your photos - that's going to be an awsome machine.

One thing - I spotted your body roller. I was given the triangular end stands for one of these but it was only after seeing your photos that I figured out what the other bit should look like (I've copied a photo below).

How do you secure the car at the right angle - are there pin holes in the scaffold tube securing the car? And how important is it that you get the center of gravity aligned with the center of rotation?

This was actually a friend of mine. The guy who did the chassis work. The "spindle part" is actually held in place by a bolt that you tighten up on the round tube portion that is connected to the car. Hope that makes sense. If you zoom in on the top of the triangle you will see what I mean. Some people do use pin holes like an engine stand on theirs. Works either way.

As for the center of gravity question. I guess the best answer is the closer it is to the center of rotation the easier it is to control the spin. I know that may sound like a simplistic answer but that's the best I can say. This car is pretty light when in this state so was pretty easy to spin and balance. I could do it by my self.

Thanks that all makes sense. Mine are missing any form of location to lock the car in position which had me confused. Locking it in place with a bolt sounds like an excellent idea, although I can see the car would have to be fairly well balanced for that to work.

I'll knock together some mountings to fit my Renaults. I've got three of them coming up and can't be bothered grinding and welding underneath them.

Nice car, and nice spec. Mines just a 67 long fleetside with a currently fairly standard 1969 4 bolt main 350/th350 with a fairly decent set of stock heads, edelbrock performer eps intake, Carter AFB carb + electrric fuel pump, HEI dizzy, K&N filter, ramshorns, duals, unknown cam, electric cooling fan. Gets a few surprised looks in rural lancashire!

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's used Ironclad Heatworx gloves for MIG welding.

There are several available in the range that claim to be suitable for welding; what temperature rating is required for up to 150A?

WOW Old thread. Well as the OP I did purchase a set of these gloves and I love them. I forget which model I bought. I'll try and remember to check them out and let you know. But, I have no problem using them when I mig weld bits and pieces on my rebuild project.

That's good news - I'm after a pair of synthetic gloves and they seem to be the only ones on the market (that I've found).

If you could let me know the type you have and the ampage you've used them up to (if that is a factor) that'd be a great help.
