As I was at the dregs of the bottle I decided to do some practice beads. I’d already welded these bit together in a previous practice session so just rearranged the bits to make new joints. I’ll cut them out at some stage to reuse.
anyway, I’m running the recommended amps from the tutorial and moving at about 1/8th inch per second, which is what I’ve seen Jody collier do on stainless. Thing is I’m failing to get a full penetration weld especially on the butt joints. I’ve sharpened the electrode down to about a thirty degree grind angle so it’s a little blunter as from what I’ve seen a blunter angle pinpoints the arc more for better penetration but it doesn’t seem to have helped here.
I’ll post the pics up if needed later but does anyone have any tips on getting better penetration?
oh forgot to mention I had turned the amps up a little on later beads as I found with aluminium backing that the recommended amps wasn’t enough to tie the two pieces in.
