Lighting For Welding

Has anyone come across a decent light when mig welding ?

I have a couple of lights but if i use them my auto mask goes mental and keeps acting like i'm welding which is driving me nuts !

The only way i'm coping at the mo is by using a maglight in one hand and welding with the other which is pants

The mag doesn't activate the mask

Any ideas ?

Fasten the lamp to your mask.

I use one of these for welding in low light areas in and around cars at work. Being magnetic I rarely have trouble finding something to stick it to and there's a hook there just in case. I've never noticed it messing with the 3M mask I use either.

I agree with rbtcomp. You can get hundreds of various sized and shaped battery operated LED lights that you can stick to your lid, they point out so wont cause your lens to darken. The magnetic ones are good too but can sometimes cause problems with your lens darkening. There was a post somewhere here a while ago about a torch that clipped to the business end of your welding torch, though i figured that would get damaged and filthy easily with spatter and fumes.

Stereophoney you could try one of these. 3 led one cost about £1.50 in "What's" store Bristol ( a cheep jack shop) I have since bought a pack of 3 (but with just 1 led in each in the 99p shop, yep pack of 3 for 99p at that price you can dot them around and they came with batteries Also in same shop 5 led headlamp for the great price of...... 99p But no batts (tight wads)
Ref you helmet false triggering. I found with my helmet it would trigger from the sunlight sparkle from the new shroud I had fitted to tourch. Adjust helmet sensitivity to sort. Lidi do from time to time have a 72 led work lamp, about £30. works well for me

I use one of the little clip on one's the same as mike has,works a treat

I've got an LED worklamp (might be the Lidl one). It looks sort of like a halogen but it's a bank of LED's. The light is very directional so you point it where you're working and it doesn't send enough light in the direction of the mask to make it darken.
