About time I introduced myself

Hi, I've been lurking for a while now but it's time to come out of the shadows I'm an ex BT engineer and did an MoD apprenticeship as an Electrical fitter many moons ago. I've always worked in the electrical side of things with the mechanical side a money saving hobby. When I first learnt to weld it was only gas and I can't remember much so I did an evening course a few years ago.
It seems to be a great community here and I've enjoyed reading a fair few of the long threads.

Chatham eh? Used to be a Sapper officer at RSME and spent many happy hours down at the dockyards driving a steam crane that a friend owned there. He did his apprenticeship at the dockyards and eventually managed to buy the small engineering workshop where he did his apprenticeship alongwith a few steam cranes and all the workshop equipment to maintain them. I used to wander down there at the weekends with a sack of coal and we would have a drive about the dockyards.

Next time you’re down this way give me a shout - I often take the kiddies to the ‘yard and we’d love a tour of a stream crane!

I would love to but it's a bit of a treck from central Portugal! Can't remember the guy's name who owned the cranes now. He also had a small motorbike museum with a collection of antique TT bikes. I went with him to Brands Hatch one time and did a circuit on a 1948 Manx Norton (if I remember correctly).
