Hi folks.
Some time ago I had a large car panel made for me (its a Land Rover bulkhead). Its in Zintex steel (all new, not a refurb) with some exposed areas and I've been storing it in the house for over two years (the Mrs. hates it), frantically worrying about it flash-rusting before I had chance to get it treated. Its all good so far.
Anyway - its going up the road to be lightly blasted and then hot-zinc sprayed. Ultimately I'll be respraying it in body colour (1k or cellulose).
In the meantime, the firm that's doing the zinc spraying can also epoxy-prime it for me after the zinc - which as a primer would be better than anything I could add with the compressor in the garage. It'll probably be a year or so before I get round to painting it - I know what I'm like in that respect.
So the query is, is epoxy primer stable enough to leave for a year before painting over? If not, I'll just take it back in the bare zinc.
My understanding is that, unlike traditional primers that are hydroscopic/porus epoxy primer is effectively unaffected by moisture and doesn't care if its left for a long time. But I'd welcome some confirmation of this.
The panel was very expensive and I don't want to cock it up.
Thank you.
