Grit for blasting

Ok so I'm going to blast my Kandy chassis prior to galvanising it o should I use fine or medium glass I can get fine at a particularly good price for a ton around half that of medium I have to say I'm leaning towards fine

if its just crushed glass fine will be ok . medium will cut faster but depends on the size of your jet and cfm of comp

Just ordered medium in bags from Stacey's 159 Inc vat delivered next day

I just use kiln dried sand, never been a problem for paint or galve.....
€15 per bag ....use it twice then on the garden......

I find dried asbestos to be even better
My Startrite bandsaw has a calculator that tell me the cutting speeds for it.

It's OK if Frank has a WET blaster set up, but otherwise . . . . . . . oh dear !

well double ohh dear ive sandblasted 3 houses with it hundreds of alloy wheels a stack of steel vintage bike parts with it over 40 years the cabinets got good extraction more than the jet can produce and open blasting use an airfed helmet so who cares

realy a 3hp 14cfm comp is the minimum for blasting and thats borderline

For a cabinet or pot in the cabinet I use a 3hp comp and the pot a 80cfm

Agreed the 3 hp one can't keep up after a while it's running continuously on mine

simlar . use a 28cfm comp with a pot for cabinet using a 3mm jet and the 90cfm comp using a 6mm jet

Well this evening I made this I'm hoping it won't wear out too quickly enough to do the inside of the chassis but if it does I have plenty of 3/4" bar in case anyone is wondering it's my take on a sideways blasting nozzle

well if u have made it out of high carbon steel and hardened it it will last a while .you should have drilled the hole at 45 decrees giving a smoother flow

Nope it's mild I did consider using an old hss cutter and sparkeroding the middle out

My bad, 7.5 bar which I think is 28 cfm.
Anyway it still struggles, so smaller nozzle?, and would the length of pipe from where the grit is introduced make a difference. I'm guessing it's about 10m at the moment.
