Heat Protective paste

For lots of reasons I often need to carry out work on parts using heat that need to be protected from the heat itself. I use this stuff illustrated below, obtained from these people, BROWNELLS. Unfortunately it is NLA on the UK version of the website, can anyone suggest an alternative? (other than wet towels).

If you can get on the US site, have a look at the MSDS, it might say what it is, you could probably just buy the "raw" chemical in the UK.

This is used in the HVAC industry when soldering. Or the stuff used to build dams when casting white metal bearings?
Off topic is that a remy 700 bolt in the vice?

Years ago I had a tub of an equivalent from Frost Auto Restoration Techniques, and now their site shows the Eastwood Anti Heat compound - sure it wasn't theat pricey when I had it! See Galooph's post above.

Off topic is that a remy 700 bolt in the vice?

Yes it is, I am now modifying a Remmy bolt face for 6mm ARC and installing a Sako extractor, proving a challenge I can tell you! There have been no Remington spares for a couple of years now and the latest shipment of Remington rifles has been delayed yet again (I know the importers very well) because of "home market demand". So absolutely no chance of buying one off the shelf, the only way to get one is to build one or have one built.

Bear with me here, but I have often read that the effect you want can be achieved by poking the part into a potato.

That is quite a combination! not much space to work with on a bolt face. Can add Remington parts to the long list of hens teeth items then!

We used to call that goat ****!

Try your local body shop factors. They use tons of that stuff to save taking interiors out.

I will ask a friend and see what they use now.

Perhaps they should use some lube to reduce the heat due to friction ?
