So Jag are going all electric and Ford are laying off 4000 as they can't sell electric surely they cannot both be right.

They could be if they are targeting different sectors of the market.

To me it's about as important as when they decide they need to update Cluedo characters or Dennis the Menace's clothing. It's only a car.

I think they do need to chase a younger demographic otherwise they'll eventually run out of customers!

To me the advert just looks a bit dated..maybe 5 years ago it would have been on the mark.

They're good at what they're good at...

The big failure of vision from practically every car maker has been trying to replicate what an ICE car does, and selling them to people as a drop in replacement, then leaving people to discover it's not really the same for themselves.

It's like selling a cat to a farmer who needs a sheepdog... Sure it can make itself useful but not in the way they expected or needed it to be.


In my mind there's only three electric cars that have really leaned into what they can do well the Citroen Ami, the Nissan Leaf, and the TX5...

The first two are inexpensive city-cars that do exactly what they say on the tin, short range journeys, very cheaply.

The latter was designed for similar journey profiles but built from the ground up to serve cabbies' needs, trying to fix things their users didn't like about the diesel TX4, and long term feedback from users has shown it to be extremely reliable with very low total cost of ownership (cheaper than renting a TX4 diesel!), and comes with the option of to fit a petrol range extender to ensure it's suitable for cities with less good charging infrastructure.

I have always loved Jaguar as a brand, having owned several.

Just like everything in the automotive industry, those who don’t make radical changes now won’t survive.

Collectively, I would say the re-brand is disliked, but we’re not JLRs future market. They’re not targeting us - the future car buyer is going to be very different person.

I came here to say this exact thing.

I dislike the rebrand. I've had 3 jags, all XFs, I'm currently on my 3rd one which is a X260 XF S 300hp diesel and it's a great car (although not as well built as the previous gen XF IMO)
To me, Jaguar is suave sophistication and luxury. (for a better price than the Germans )
However, there's no denying that what should be their core market - saloon cars XE and XF - haven't done so well in the last few years.

Like you say, the rebrand isn't to target us, it's to target 20-something yearolds with too much money in their pockets

Never, ever again on modern JLR products. Total garbage and anyone in the industry who is honest will 100% say the same thing.

£650? Luxury! You was lucky. We had a Volvo that used to eat those & other electronics bits at least once a year if not sooner and that was 25 years ago.

As for total garbage my son works in the industry & has said "never buy anything made by jlr" Especially if its electric!

My view - the ad is complete garbage.
However- I don’t recall buying any of my cars in the past based on a commercial. Looks, reviews and reliability indexes yes. The problem will stick if that ends up as their brand, and they continue to chase what is really rather weird at best and almost unpleasant at worst.

It's all very amusing ....can selling cars based on a concept work? Reminds me of Victoria Beckham and range rover evoque marketing.....until some Gullible person buys one of these marketing/design 'led' products and suffers the consequences (not so amusing!)

Except for some warmed over 2nd hand ones. Seeing how well they put new "kit" cars together I can only imagine the quality and chaos that will happen when they find out what the parts supply is.
I look forward to reading on here someone called Jagman ,or similar, on the jag website pleading about how to weld rust

The problem is Gerry McGovern…

He’s a designer (don’t you know Darling!!) - he all but drove Ian Callum out of Jaguar and then ponced around the stage in a cravat and trainers to launch the new Range Rover, expounding on the design inputs, the ‘materiality’ (sorry, the bloody what…?) of the vegan non-leather seats and other such drivel, and he’s now on a one-man (one-person?) mission to destroy Jaguar.

Think his work here may already be done…

Trouble is - we bleed green… currently on our second F-Pace (gets the dog in there, far nicer place to be than an Evoque) and my Discovery 4 has full service history and just creeping up on 205,000 miles!
