Lap Joint

I have been practicing/struggling with lap joints. My problem has been undercut. I finally kept the stick out short and aimed specifically at the base and made tiny e motions. The 2" bead you see is my best lap so far. Any suggestions? I'm working with 1/4" thick material. My wire size is .035. Ignore the other beads--I used a piece of scrap from when I first started welding.

nothing wrong with that. If you want to keep the sharp top edge of the top piece of metal the only way i have found is ti lower the amps and have a smaller weld, which in turn lowers penetration and causes a weaker weld, or travel as fast as you can with no weave and keep watching the top of the puddle. As soon as the corner looks wet move as quick as the puddle will allow.

that's said if i really want to keep the top edge sharp i tig it as ive given up trying to perfect it with mig
