Musket ball mold/pliers

Dug this out while up at my dads last week.
I've made hunderds if nor thousands of lead balls with this as a kid.

I've tried to find similar molds, with no success.

Any ideas



2nd line looks like; maker
4th is ball size;80 (probably swan-shot measurement)

I have a pair of single ball mold pliers somewhere, slightly smaller than marble size but ive never seen a set like yours.

Some were I have a similar device, in brass through.

But if you look for a local Black powder gun club, they will be able to point you in the direction of were to get a modern replacement.

I not used mine in years, no need, no black powder toys.

Many years ago I cast my own pellets for my air rifles I had LEM Spitzer lead casting pliers in .177, .20, .22 and .25 because I had bought an Eddie Barber Milbro Diana G80 Air rifle that came with 4 interchangeable barrels one each of .177, .20, .22 and .25. ......... this must have been back in 1980/81.
I also had an .22 ASI sniper, .22 HW35, Webley .22 Vulcan and .177 Viscount, and Jackal Hi Power .22 and a .22 Woodsman.
The 4 sets of LEM Spitzer pliers I had were identical to the pair in this photo I found on the net.

First time I've set eyeson since I was 16. Then it was for the catapult.
And not for shooting cats, I my add, [or any animal for that matter.] The cats (farm) had a job

Thanks. There is a makers name, but too rusted to see who

The number 80 will refer to the Bore size in the old Gauge system ie number of balls cast from pure lead to make 1 pound.
80 is equivalent to .38 calibre. A relatively common calibre for revolving ml pistols.
Moulds of this type fetch good money especially if someone has a nice cased muzzleoading rifle or pistol for which the bullet mould is missing!

A .400" ball bearing is a very good fit. Would the lead shrink that much, or a good fit

Actually i should have said .3876" so add on a century & a half of use & wear & a bit of shrinkage & .400 ball bearing would go !

LEM moulds are great. Been around for years. Still going. I bought a mint JS 540 surface grinder off the chap a few months ago.
