Old Britool Catalogues

Son's started to collect t old Britool socket sets after buying one for £5 at a Flea market, so any ideas of how to date stuff as I am struggling to find any online catalogues?
He also has his eye on a Hex drive set any idea how old that would be?

There was a hex drive set at the steel works garage when i was an apprentice 55years ago and it wasn't used as the square drive had super ceded it then

He's kicking himself because he was offered one recently for £45 and didn't buy it

like Gordon say's they got superceded......I still have a hex short extention as a drift........it was like when I bought it.......if u do buy a hex drive set it'll be just for show cos u'll hardley ever get any replacements.....think they were nickle plated.....?
spose Britool died a long time ago.......?? still have a few of their ring spanners in AF..........

He does have a hex to square adaptor which was an unusual fine

I did have a catalogue from them that was sent out to retailers, As i recall it had part numbers in it,I will have a look around and see if i can find it and make a .pdf

I have a hex to square adapter, it's about 1-1/2" long with a cross bar hole. My dad bought it in the 60's, he went to buy a
socket he didn't have and they only had square drive and they sold him a square drive adapter.
I still have one hex extension, I ground a flat in place of the hex and use it with a cross bar. The hex sockets we had were
all chrome plated.
Have you looked on google books or magazines for a catalogs or adverts?

Well probably the best place to start is maybe get involved with this thread on garagejournal (sorry it's another forum but it's the best I could think of to help winchman out.)

He's a bit skint too the bank of dad has just managed to buy him a 1950's Britool tool chest I will post pics tomorrow

The 3/8 drive he can defiantly use as he has a box and a ratchet but little else in 3/8.
The 1/2 drive I will have to get him to check to see whats missing from his current sets.
He has no 1/4 drive metric the only stuff he has seen is all 90's stuff.
Now The Bank of Dad has bought the Big tool chest and set 145 below

Things he is looking for with little chance of finding
Correct padlock for the 145 set

A tote tray like the one below this box was on Garage journal, we can only find catalogue images of his?
No we cant confirm but we think the big box should have tote tray like this one but not certain just waiting for a kind Australian gent to Email a scan of the catalogue page

He keeps eyeing up my Britool 3/8 torque wrench do you think I should be worried it will migrate to his box????
I missed trick recently at a boot sale, bloke has some Wartime Britool ring spanners ( Yes Dad paid) he also had the C spanners but told me it should be a set of 4 and he only had 3 but as far as I can see it should be 3, have to look out for him again.
This is the problem with collecting you get nothing for months then a load all of a sudden, he is still at school and works a Zero hours contract so works up and down for him, but considering he started out with sockets he now has a Tool chest and a fair few big spanners.
His idea is to paint the box and try to fill it to the original spec. So any ideas how we can produce the alloy badge?

Well they're yours/his for the postage if you want them. No use to me.

I've been though my stash of "random things from clearouts" and that was all the Britool I could find. The rest was Gedore, Gordon, Elora and King Dick amongst others. I'll keep an eye out for any older Britool stuff in the future though

Thanks thats very kind of you. Some of the King Dick we believe was made by Britool the 1/4 ratchets from the 60s are identical to King Dick and one other whose name escapes me.

That doesn't surprise me, I'm not sure if King Dick have ever made their ratchets in house? Obviously the sockets and spanners are in house though.
