Hi folks
I've had my new Oxford for coming on 2 months now and I'm in love pure and simple. So much that my mrs hates my new welder as She says I spend more time with it than I do her .
A few little things about the welder first before some pics. I ordered my oxford from welding supplies direct through a guy called john archon who was very helpful and put up with phoning oxford with all the alterations I wanted.
I had the transformer custom wound so it would go down to 20 amps in actual fact it must go lower as I can lay a nice bead of weld on a bean quite easily, but having the transformer wound down doesn't affect my top end as I asked to still be able to get my 360amps at the top and I get my full 360 amps at the top so I'm very pleased.
I also opted for the digital gauges which are handy but only if you have someone watching the gauges as your welding as they only light up when in use as it's cv not current like my tig.
I also got the plastic spool cover for the wander box as I like next to the sea so it helps keep the salt air off it a bit.
The welder took about 3 and a half weeks to build and arrive, a little longer tan the 2 weeks stated but after using the welder I'd wait months for my next one if I had to.
The bad bits:
When welding: none what so ever at the moment it's performed flawless and il have deliberately had 2 jobs next to each other one working on tin stuff and other rebuilding a digger bucket switching from flat out to thin at the drop of a hat, perfect.
Non welding related: the handle on the wander box is crap it doesn't have the balance at all, but don't be put off by this as I've made a new handle and I spent a while thinking about it and it's simple but perfectly balance. I'd just like to point out that handle on my old mans 735amp miller wander box isn't balanced either. Pics to follow.
One other thing that bugged me with this which is something all welders lack, is cable holders! it really bugs me and with a wander box that's 4 leads to try and tidy away. So as wit the handle I sorted some cable holders on to the beast.
More modifications: I upgraded the wheels I do a lot of off roading with my migs so the need to ride over anything with ease and when the welder weighs a tonne it's very awkward. So she now has 2 200mm braked castors at the front and I think they are either 14 or 15 inch pneumatics at the back I will measure and check, but now she goes anywhere!
Last little mod is I don't like chains holder the tanks at the back so I cut down an old little rubber track and used a ratchet strap for securing my tank to the back of the welder.
Right the pics of my beast
