They are very good. Rather noisy and need ducting and the exhaust to be run outside.
They are not quite 4kw. Certainly not the 8kw advertised.
I have one which runs 10 hours a day no problem.

Theres that as well which I forgot. I had the bigger one machine mart. May have been the biggest, not sure, and that took 25l a day easy.nuff saidnoisy costs a lot to run and stinks
Moved onto a waste oil burner but I am now looking at the Chinese night heaters. I've one in the truck and its mega.
What area are you heating?
I don't know why people ignore these kerosene inverter heaters. They are even better in the right setting.

Only from YouTube, but it would seem the output is the same but you vary the Kw by the fan speed? I would probably explain that better without wine but I know what I mean!
They are limited to 4kw on paper and restricted to be able to be sold within the Eu

What are they?
Its not big this workshop, as I have downsized. The waste oil burner was too big for it.
Its about 10mx8m then there's a bit onto side about 2x8 that I'm using as the machine shop / clean area
About 8ft tapering to 7ft. Good enough ventilation as the roof corrugates are not sealed on the wall heads and I have an extractor fan fitted.

Answer (1 of 2): Thanks guys and I just found this answer on Wikipedia that is 1 kg of petrol and 3.51 kg of oxygen produce 3.09 kg of carbon dioxide and 1.42 kg of water. Now my concern is that how much of new water we are producing daily. Maybe many billion litres daily. Will that not imbalance...
The inverter heater I have is more powerful than the Chinese diesel heaters and much easier to install.
Having said that I can't find anyone selling a 4.6kw one. Only 3kw. So I would rate that about the same.
I have both but if my central heating broke down it's the inverter heater I would take home with me!
I run 3 X 270,000 btu propane space heaters in my uninsulated workshop when it's really cold. It only takes 15 minutes before I need to turn one off. And depending on the outside temperature I turn another off after an hour or two. I originally only had one but I spent more time in front of the heater than working. I think a massive output of heat for a short time is better than a small amount on for hours.
Ouch I wouldn't want the bill for those

I have one of the Chinese Diesel Heaters, rated as 5kw, the 8kw is the same model with a different sticker on it. The first one I bought wouldn't work, seller offered 30% discount! Got a full refund from PayPal, bought another, started straight away, no problems. I put a new motherboard in the faulty one, now works a treat. Kept as a spare.
They need a good 12v supply at start-up. I use a 30amp power supply.
I did have a torpedo shaped space heater, headache and running eyes after 5 minutes, I gave that away.

Not cheap at £359 but mine paid for itself in 2 months over an electric heater.
It is a genuine 4.6kw so pretty powerful.
Far less fumes than a calor gas heater people used to use.
Will run very happily on normal household central heating oil.

I have a propane one that smells. Hadn't seen the diesel types for a while here till the temperature dropped to -8ish here. Two agricultural dealers were using them the day I looked in and very grateful of the warmth I was too.
The first had a Sip fireball filled with gas oil a thermostat switching it on and off maintaining a comfortable background heat in a space approx 40'x40' with a mezzanine at the back and part filled with shiny new parts that would have rusted if moisture was a problem. I couldn't smell anything so asked if that was a problem, not a problem as long as you don't let it run out then it stinks, seemed to be a case of too many cooks!
The other guy round the corner had a bigger area to heat and was using some kind of indirect gas oil burner and was equally impressive. The name of it escapes me atm. but picked up a leaflet for it so link to follow

I have a sealey space heater that will run on either heating oil or diesel. I only really use it for heating my spray booth. When running on heating oil it is fume free but it runs constantly. On pure diesel it has some fumes on startup but it produces a lot more heat meaning the inbuilt thermostat switches the heater on & off as needed.
I now run it on a 50/50 mix of heating oil & diesel which gives you fume free running with a decent heat output.

I dont like the idea of a permanent direct heat source in a workshop, carbon monoxide is bad for you and if the thing has actually heated your workspace there must be a lot of it. Ok for occasional use but long term an indirect or electric heating system is a must. I borrowed a friends to dry out the mancave extension and that made my eyes water so I bought a new one, its a bit better but again you wouldn't want to work in there.

I do think it's the propane burners that produce all the moisture.
It seems like the newer gas oil/kerosene burners are much cleaner burning now adays. After all this sip was cycling on and off with the thermostat and no smell.
Kerosene has a lower calorific value so will burn colder or need to burn longer.
Anyway a link to the mighty impressive indirect heater.

Never seen such a thing before worked well and quietly and without smell. No idea where the products of combustion were going and had a price tag over 1k. Others might be available of course
