Even a tidy wide track can be bought for 450 quid now. Tinwork goes south pretty fast on sankeys if they’re not looked after

There has always been a question on the later ones even being legal at all as they have hydraulic over run brakes. Never heard of anyone being stopped because of it though.

There's nothing that says over run brakes have to be mechanical.
The issue is if you want a handbrake you still need mechanics, and if the gross weight is over 1500kg, you need a breakaway cable which has to somehow mechanically operate the brakes.

I'm sure @Justme can give more specifics.

I have a stupid American boat trailer. 2.2T single axle and hydraulic brakes. Theres a master cylinder in the hitch. I investigated eu law and the braking system can be anything. However it must have a mechanical hand brake. I then found a clause that said trailers built to US spec were deemed acceptable anyway...

I've had a couple of Sankeys.
First I managed to bolt a NATO pintle to the standard bolt holes on a LDV towbar to enable it to be towed home. There I welded a piece of steel to the hitch ring so a standard ball hitch could be fitted.
Second was a wide track and a lot bigger than the standard Sankey (had hydraulic disc brakes) that normally would be towed by the Bedford TK lorries etc. For that I had a proper NATO pintle for the back of the Land Rover.
First Sankey is now in France and second got nicked from where I had it stored !

I thought wide tracks were towed behind Land Rovers, I thought the ones towed behind the lorries were a bigger thing altogether? I thought the lorries used a bigger pintle hitch, people do get caught out buying them on ebay.

It's a catch 22, to good to end up scrapped but no use to you. Will certainly be worth a few quid to someone if you can get it at the right price or free.
