Shed TV Ariel advice

Happy new year all.

I'm looking at putting a TV in my new shed . What's the best options in the way of an digital Ariel . I want to mount the Ariel outside of the shed and run cable into shed to TV point.

Had a quick look on eBay etc and not really sure on what's best options.

Help and advice welcome .

I’ve used the little portable aerials (look like a pen sticking out of a base) with good success. Think it depends heavily on your signal.

Isn’t there something that you can’t put an aerial on a shed otherwise you need planning permission? Could you use an indoor one?

I have CAT5 cable going into my shed - I do listen to "internet radio" on a 50" LG wall mounted TV.

You could just watch "I Player" or the like - catch up TV thru the web.

The only reason I did it was - I got a free smart TV with a small 20mm white burn mark on the screen. But had decent speakers and I wanted a radio.

Daughter bought a new TV and got me to mount it - remove and dump the old one (I turned her rubbish into a shed radio).

I had a good long length of CAT5 cable - I made the TV mount bracket out of four lengths of Uni-strut.


I can also watch You Tube on it and listen to music on You Tube.

Grandson - loaded my phone with an APP - "Smartify" - so I can control the TV thru my phone - instead of using the painfull remote control to surf the NET.

Grandson is 15 and a bit - he has just got a girlfriend - my wifey "nanny" - wondered into my shed - when me and the grandson were sitting and drinking tea.

She declared - "Pointing at me - she said - I don't mind you showing him how to roll fags - then pointing at him - she said - don't ask your Grandad about girlfriends and sex". Me and the boy - laughed out loud - because we were having "an all male conversation" before she rudely barged in.

Aerials are not digital, they are exactly the same as the old analogue aerials they are just receiving a digital signal now. To pick up a good quality signal you need a clear line of sight to the transmitter and good shielded coaxial cable to keep out interference. Find out which transmitter you are on and what band aerial you need then mount it as high as you can. Eliminate as many joins as you can, run the cable straight to the back of the set if possible.

I am full of admiration for you multi taskers. If I tried to watch TV and work on something at the same time I'd end up in A&E sharpish. Happy New Year.

A cheap caravan satellite dish on the side of the shed ?

Ive got a normal aerial on my shed.....a small pole attaches it to the shed....cable through the wall with plug on the end direct into TV....ive got a TP Link for wifi and an old laptop with SkyGo...so I can watch football with the Lads (old men actually)......we have a sofa and 5 high seat chairs (we need them to get up at our age)......I need a toilet though.....no drains down there so only a compositing job would be possible and ive heard they stink....anyway, back to the aerial, it points in the same direction as the one on the house.

Just to settle a few things the TV set up is in a separate room of the shed . It is for my son so he can plug in his PS4 and watch TV and chill etc. It's totally separate from my side of the shed etc so not watching TV while I work as I can't see TV due to been in a different room.

Yup. Use something similar in the house. Stuck to the window

It's totally separate from my side of the shed etc so not watching TV while I work as I can't see TV due to been in a different room.
