That way of installing showers is a bit old hat these days. 2 15mm pipes poking out the wall at 150mm centres, then use the compression adaptors that slide over once the finished wall is in. No joints in the wall and don't need those hateful offset adaptors

That’s what I did with mine when I added a shower into the family bathroom…
Just used a couple of push fit blanking caps to test for leaks…All good, then ready for the tiler to come and do his stuff…

Too much PTFE just tends to wind itself off when the fitting is screwed in

I do 23 to 25 turns, wound tight. Key is turn it in but never turn it back. Not lost a patient yet!

He's 100% correct those offset's are the devils P**s and get binned straight out the box on every shower install

Does Loctite 577 actually cure?
Just use that on its own on the threads?

I use Loctite 567 (by itself) on any problematic taper/taper thread joints. It hasn't failed me yet. And yes, it does cure anaerobically inside the threads, even though the air-exposed stuff that you can see squeezed out around the edge remains soft for a long time. If I'm re-doing a leaky PTFE-taped joint with 567, I make sure that all PTFE tape has been removed (with a wire brush if necessary) and that the threads are clean.

Per a Loctite website: "Some products, such as Loctite 567 Thread Sealant, are general-purpose instant pipe sealants that are suited for taper/taper threads. If you are working with straight/straight or taper/straight threads, however, you need a different product, such as Loctite 577."

Just tried a 1/2” tapered thread into the backplate and that starts to bite even with no ptfe. I suppose the other option is to source 2 connectors which are 1/2” bspt to the shower connector which is 3/4 bsp
I’ve got them bang on at 150mm centres so don’t need an offset, they just need to be the right length

Eventually yes it will seal most things instantly but if you can give it over night all the better.

Go back in a few years you may need heat to crack it off , it's what I use when you don't want to go back to something or it's something you really can't get back to something cause it's built in.

Use it a fair bit where things won't quite line up.
Plenty of it and hand tight is usually enough. Use it a fair bit where things need to face a certain way so not allowing you to do up quite as tight as you'd like.

Tape should follow the nut, righty tighty, and if you pull it off with your figure through the dispenser you can get it wheelie-tight!

At our previous house we had 300 psi, we were on the main feeding a village 600 feet up on the hill. Ball valve washers lasted about a month until I fitted a pressure reducing valve. When we moved, the people we sold to gutted the house & I explained about the pressure & needing a reducer, they didn’t listen, fitted a heating system that ran on mains pressure. They burst the boiler & split the radiators, cost them a small fortune, they were bleating on about this & I said “I did warn you” they seemed to think I was responsible in some way. Soon after we sold, Severn Trent relaid the mains & fed all the properties in the road at a reasonable pressure.

I used to have that overnight, which prompted me to fit a reducing device.
Since my public water supply was re-routed so the pipery was being fed from down the village somewhere, the mains pressure has dropped considerably. Bonus though, it's now lovely soft water, whereas the high-pressure feed was limey as feck.

I keep both 567 and 577 on hand (567 for taper/taper threads, and 577 for looser fit-ups). The cured 567 is easier to take apart later on than 577.

Problem is, it doesn't half wreck water hammer arrestors - I keep meaning to fit a rather higher pressure version - I only remember when I'm in the bathroom and the washing machine is filling . . .
