Transfer punches recommendations please

I have a set that is one of the cheep generics , marked in metric units but i'm fairly sure they are in fact just the imperial ones with a different holder.

What sort of accuracy are you expecting? 0.3mm undersize puts the divot no more than 0.15mm (0.005") from its true position. If your application requires better than five thou location accuracy, a transfer punch is not the correct tool to employ.

Weirdly I just double checked my set and they came in the blue holder and were sold as metric but are in fact imperial marked on the holder.

Mine are also 0.3mm undersized of the marked (imperial) size

I got the Arc Euro ones listed above, very good and nice solid holder.
Also got the cup fit ones in the fore of pic, spring loaded cup fit, they have been useful for when I can't get a snug fit with the other set sizes.

Good tip from @8ob was just use them for a gentle witness mark to save them and then give the mark a good punch with appropriate punch.

I expect them to be more accurate than that, if I drill a 10mm hole I expect it to be near enough 10mm

For that, you might have to buy a set of drill blanks and grind your own points onto them:

It would be interesting to give some thought to the sizes you would actually use. How often do you need to transfer through a 10.0mm dia. hole? That hole size is no good as M10 clearance (too small), no good as M10 tapping (too big). About the only time you would need nominal size is if you are transferring for roll pins.

You could probably look at the pilot diameters on standard metric counterbores (for capscrews), which are designed to fit in standard metric clearance holes, and copy them.

You could turn up a bush in the lathe to suit the od and make the id work for a smaller diameter punch.
