US PRO any good

I used to be a mechanic and have a few us pro items, stuff I don't use often that I didn't need top quality.Got long spanners and short spanners, they seem ok and I haven't broken any.As someone else also said bergen are ok.

The US Pro stuff is just cheap generic Chinese stuff, and the brand gets applied to a lot of different items, from unrelated manufacturers.
But that doesn't mean it is useless.

Things like sockets, impact sockets and spanners are likely to be good enough.
For example: The impact sockets won't be cr-mo, but they will do the job. I've got cheap Chinese impact sockets and they have been fine - they aren't as nice as my Toptul ones, but they do the job.
Things like pliers, screwdrivers, picks etc are likely to be pretty rubbish.

I have toolboxes branded US-Pro, these are exactly the same as the US-General ones which get positive reviews in America.
They are all made in China of course. They aren’t snap-on quality, but then they aren’t snap on money either.

So I think it depends what you want, what you are going to use them for, and your budget.

In the U.K. Beta can be quite overpriced for what they are. A lot of their stuff is made in Taiwan, so usually better quality than Chinese.
But there are plenty of other options available too, probably even from the same OEM – so don’t get hung up on a brand and look around and see what gets you the best deal.

For decent sockets I’d be also looking at Facom and USAG – both made by Toptul, excellent quality at a reasonable price. Their ratchets are generic Taiwan units, not as nice as Koken or Snap-On but O.K. Bahco also have quite a nice set.
For spanners, again Facom/USAG (Toptul), Stahlwille – Elora usually can be picked up quite a bit cheaper and are very good.

If budget is tight, consider carefully what you need – for example a thin walled impact socket set may be a better investment, then you won’t need to buy duplicates in chrome.

However if your budget doesn’t stretch to a premium brand and the Us-Pro is affordable, then is unlikely to be any worse than any of the other Chinese brands.
It will probably get the job done fine. Just don’t pay too much for it.

The older us pro/bergen spanners were quite nice, the newer gear looks a bit like the hilka stuff.

They do JIS, flat, Phillips and posi have a fair few all ok

I have a set of US pro UNC/UNF taps and dies, all tool steel, split dies, and so far cut good crisp on size threads, for £80 I can't fault them.!

Good looking ,all metal no plastic parts that will deteriorate with oil grease etc, easy to clean

The US-Pro ratchets I've had weren't up to much.
Lidl/Parkside I've been pleasantly surprised with, and adequate for what I need in the van. The ratchets lack a bit of engagement (not enough teeth I think), but the sockets etc are ok).

+1 for Teng - I've a wee 3/8" composite type ratchet & matt finish socket set that must be 30yo, and its been fantastic.

My US pro ratchets also broke quite quickly....I have a few bits but I only buy their stuff for one off jobs.

Halfords socket set has lasted me decades...Teng is lovely...and usually so is the price too!

The only US PRO tools I have is a 11 piece bolt extractor set. And I cannot fault it , I've had a long breaker bar on the extractor's and none have cracked so far.

id use some of their stuff for general use , if youre pushing tools to the limit like crank bolts all day long then no , but say 1/2" stuff for a susspenion job i dont see its going to give you grief

ratchets n the like you deserve better , buy a used brand name if need be

If you buy the breaker bar buy some spare ends for it as you will brake them.
I used to sell tools over 20 years ago and sold quite a bit of US Pro and Bergen and honestly never had any issues, but as mentioned times change.

or just fill up your tool box with what you can afford then replace stuff that breaks with better?

for example i work on my older vw's theyre mostly all 13/17/19mm if i was to break a socket just get a nice used snap on 19mm , the other sizes sit there unused

1/4 and 3/8 stuff used on tail lights and inlet manifolds etc arent going to be a high risk of breaking , make sure you have 1/2 " 6 sided for the heavier stuff
