Just thought I'd put up a thread to show some of the things I've been up to since buying my welder a couple of years ago. Mainly stuff involving my car, but I hope to get a few pictures of the other non car projects I've done. I think I've got the hang of MIG now, but I'd love to hear any advice you more experieced lot can give me about how to improve my techniques etc
The car in question
Lower chassis brace
Raising the suspension turrets
Rear wheels stuck out too far for my liking, so narrowed the rear beam
Rear strut brace
Running the car very low, meant the rear gearbox mount liked to grind along the floor (due to it being designed like a downward pointing wedge), so thought I'd design and make my own one which doesn't hang low. Made two in the end, one for me and one for a mate.
Old one
A year or so on and the gearbox died, so thought I'd take the opportunity while the car's off the road to do something which I wanted to do for a while. Raise the wishbone mounts, to prevent them hitting the floor, and also to flatten out the wishbone angles.
Welded a chassis brace between the mounts
This meant I had to raise the engine however, so new engine mounts required
Front mount cut and raised
Old drivers side mount with little jig
Raised mount
Extended alternator adjuster
Raised rear mount against my old one
Gearbox back in on new mounts
Back on its wheels with nice ground clearance
Engine in on new mount
Looking more complete
Made a fair few of these too, bike carb manifolds for friends n that.
A little project I started tonight, to make this engine stand, still got to make the rotating bit though.
Thanks,
Arun
