This is my scroll saw

Got it on Freecycle a few years ago and it's still on my "to do" list.

It's a Hobbies Minor.

That's a guttingly lucky score from Freecycle.

Unusual design. How's the blade held on that?

In the 3rd picture down you can see the blade clips on the ends of the steel tapes. The lever in the bottom picture tensions the tape.

Hi Roger, that is some find, I must admit to have not having seen anything like that before utilizing the steel straps. I am still trying to fathom were the motor would be mounted on it is there a fixing plate behind the large wheel? a lot of the early ones I have seen were treadle operated, I checked the motor on mine and it is a 1/4 hp with a speed of 1425rpm

There's a small V pulley on the shaft behind the white disc, but no clearance for a belt, there's a larger H section pulley further outboard that may have been used with a flat belt to go downwards to a treadle.

I can't see where a motor may have been fitted.

I can't find anything on Google about this particular one, there are a lot treadle machines made by Hobbies (of Dereham I believe).

Not surprising. That's the first time I've seen that particular model, and I tend to keep an occasional eye on any Hobbies machines. It isn't one of the run-of-the-mill models.

That's a nice old machine, we have a Hobbies treadle fret saw with a leather belt drive.
