Vespa 150

Taken a little job on for a mate of mine that he was too busy to sort. Its a Vespa 150 ?? i think. Anyway pics tell the story really , looked like it had been sat in a field for the last 20 or so years when i got it.
He just wanted the welding done , the owner would be doing the body prep.
Forgot to take an overall pic before i started drilling spotwelds etc. This is what was left of the floorboard

Drilled off , ready for clean up , patching and welding primer

First of a few holes LOL . Note cable guide tubes

Rot cut out and new metal added , hole at top of weld is covered :ashamed:

Nearside top frame rot , ready for cutting out

New metal sectioned in

New floorboard fitted from underside

Finished

Front butt welds on floorboards. Supplied floorpan was not the best quality , in fact it was about 12mm too wide , so had to section the original kneeboards to gain the extra width , you can just see where i have done it at the edge of the panel

That's not as bad as some I've had in for gritblasting

And your welding is a lot better than I've seen too :clapping:

ive just bought a scooter myself, but its a bajaj rather than a vespa, although they are generally the same other than the horncast headset and mudguard, id like a genuine one but being jobless ill just have to make do with what i have!

Looks like a Sportique judging by the remains from the legshield badge... :whistle:

those floor pans would seem to be a "one size fits all" had exactly the same problems when my Sprint V had the floor done.

TBF a lot of the vintage frames look the same, it's only the panels & headsets that tend to look any different.

Rally panels are flatter and more squared off than the sportiques.

Bit of a Vespa geek I have to admit.

What's the technical specifications of the Bajaj then?

the baja is made by the same machinary as the vespas, bajaj just change a couple of things to make it look like their own, (headset, horn cover, mudguard), the engine in mine is a px 125 standard, but its an electric start version so some of the electrics are changed, and its restricted to 55..... electronically :mad:

, now its just the mudguard and headset to go, and the matter of making it go faster....

restricted to 55 electronically??? How's that work?

There's no sophistication to a PX125 engine, the restrictions are normally done via the exhaust (quickest way to get a bit more power is to replace that) then put a 166 / 177 kit on it.

Oh and junk the leccy start & motor, that'll save you a fair old chunk of weight which adds up to speed. then get rid of the starter gear ring on the flywheel, will make it rev a bit higher & accelerate a bit quicker.

Sportique .... so thats what the badge would have said. I was trying to work it out from the dirty mark left LOL. Not a scooter man myself , you fellas sound like you know what they are all about though

Badged as a sportique in the UK, elsewhere it was called either a VBA or a VBB I think (from the frame prefix.)

A bit more work in this one i am afraid. No idea what model it is , but surely these thing are worth good money to want to spend money on it :dontknow:

It's amazing how many Lambrettas and Vespas there are, Armando's seem to be importing them by the crate load. I've blasted three Lambrettas in the past fortnight alone.

they get imported in containers from Italy and some as far as India. Our kid has two.I fancey getting one meself, for thew right price of course.

I usually go to Italy for my summer holiday , there are thousands of them buzzing around day and night being ridden like Grand Prix racers ! :laughing:

Hi,

I've heard that even 'tatty' scooters will go for big money, especially if it's an older model.

Could be worth checking out business contacts next time you're in Italy...

if they think they're cheap run-abouts there and someone's willing to put a few in a crate and ship them to you then you could be making a few hundred pounds on each one.

Ive seen complete '60s Lambrettas, may or may not run, on offer for around a grand, full restored about four grand.

Nearside engine cover , the only rot on it luckily

Needs sending through beading tool , to get the final shape , but you get the idea
