DIY mig welder

I have some parts to build my own homemade mig welder, end im finis him, here is some pictures...
The transformers is from old rel welder, diode bridge 4x300 amp., feed mechanism is also homemade from car wash wipe /motor/.Elektronic is build my
friend and work great /tnx Deja/, only function is wire speed & burn back.
Only part from shop its gun & cable.
Voltage is 19v - 22v, curent ~30-50A, wire used 0,6
The test weld is without co2 gas, the bootle is empty, and not buy yet.
Steel plate is 1 mm...
The project is under test, well see how its work ....

Good luck with your project. It sounds interesting. I can't see any photos, though. It would be good if you could post some.

@Jaeger S2k & George B, i know thats is funny to build own homemade welder but here in Serbia cheaper welder kosts ~300 euros...this welder its deklared for 150A but realy work on 50A, to buy better you must pay ~500-1000 euro. /150-250 A, 3 phase.
I love build evrything at my home, if you have a transformer from a rel welder /or different/ with a small energy & time & little manny you bild your OWN mig welder.

Sorry for pictures but my internet provider change cable /cable net/ and have some trouble..if a get atachment the post is blokked.
I promise that i post pictures, soon as posible, if some have questions...im here..

It does sound like a very interesting project. Nobody is making fun at you - that was a bad joke. Your project is the sort of thing we love to see on here.

Are you using the forum photo upload system? I'm not aware of any internet providers that would block that. There are some instructions to use that system here: http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=5016

The test weld its without gas /co2/, the welder work good, but i need to instal second transformer /chunk ??/ and kapacitors to see how its works with this components.. i have small problems with wire feed mechanism, small wheels its not centered properly and the iron its not hard ..

This must be one of the most interesting threads here for a long time. Many thanks for sharing the great photos, circuit and everything. If it works as well as your test welds look, without gas, choke, etc, I look forward to seeing the final version of your DIY MIG welder. If you can get welds which look as good those without any gas, then even I could get interested in MIG welding! I must try it.

Would be worth trying it with gas before adding the extra components. The arc characteristics will change a lot when you use gas, and you will get a better comparison. Looks very promising so far.

Where did you source the wire feed motor? Is it adapted from a car windscreen wiper motor? Also what output voltage range do you have?

The heart of mig welders its transformers, my transformers its an old rel welder,and not work properly because the transformers steel its not "E I" type / orr different/..its only "I" type.
The magnetic field not generate enough power to sec. side, but i know thats and the sec. output voltage is ~45-50 volts.I must unroll 20 circuit from sec. side to pull down voltage to ~20-25v.
I have second mig welder /from shop/ i measure the output voltage, its in range of 17,5-to 26v / the switch its 4 range/.
The elektronics its clone "copy" from my second welder...the diode bridge its blady big 4x300A, and dont warm up, the fan its only for joke, and sound,like a turbo when i push the trigger.Fan it from the PC power supply box.
Motor is from a car windows wash mechanism and its alsoo blady big and strong, when work the curent its 5A !!, i cant stopped to my finger..
Only one dark side of theese construction its wire feed supply because the motor supply its a same as the welder supply /gun/, and when i weld the speed of motor its not continuously /increase or dekrease/ small bat enough to feel in arc.
Cheep welder didnt have a chook transformer but the thin wire /0,6-0,8/ has own impedance and little blokked big current when weld /arc/ start.

@Malcolm: i know thats, but my gas supply get gas only to weekend.Yes the motor its from
car...wash, its work on a 12 volts and blady strong, and the rpm its a full range of mig welders feed needed.
This transformers have only two range to primari side. Output: I.=19v ac, II.=22v ac
theese voltage enough to steel plate up to ~1,5 mm, maybe 2 mm to penetration bee good.

Cuba, your "second transformer" would be an inductor, also known as a "choke".
Those are the best-looking diodes I have seen for a long time. Do you have any spare ? !

And, to add to George's comments - I find this sort of stuff fascinating and deserving space on the forum.

I'm no expert welder by any stretch of the imagination but welders are a useful part of my collection of tools. I collected a bunch of parts to build a rectifier & filter to go with a 'buzz box' that I've had about 25 years with the intention trying a bit of DC arc welding and powering a TIG box that I picked up.
That, plus my Cebora 130 and ancient (dead) Migatronic give me something to do / think about / avoid drinking too much.

Sorry but i dont have any spare..
Diode its a gift from my friend but its not a big things, because people come from Russia and seale evrything /new, used, "second hand"/ and diodes cost ~5-10 euro 250A if buy moor the prices go down, the Russian diodes its heavy and cheap.
Bill dont drink too much, what i drik if some day go to UK!! /hehe/
