Some of the cheap welders are live all the time, some don't have chokes and some are AC because it is cheaper to make them with no rectifiers.
They are basically a tiny, low duty cycle, ac welder with a wire feed.

Yes, they are popping up more often on ebay from box movers.AC Mig Set?
I dont think so

Apparently gasless will work on AC, Then again, these chokeless welders will have little penetration/fusion and lots of spatter, so are completely useless other than a way to take someones money.
Here you go Al - eBay Australia is full of the things. Look at the spec plate - AC output:

Compare to a DC output one:
Wish people wouldn't buy the cheap and nasty ones. They are difficult to use (the one in the link would be impossible) and they tend to make people give up welding.
If you go to the Cemont/liquid air site, on page 44 of the pdf is a schematic.http://portal.airliquide.com/P_Doc/view.php?base_id=32&doc_id=287&version=0&file_id=1In post 31 you say "........sizeable choke/reactor in addition to the main transformer, rectifier........"
Post 35 seems to say 40v OCV 50 Hz, but the small logo in the top left shows a half-wave rectifier.
I'm confused, if the output is AC it wouldn't have a rectifier & choke inside.

There are at least 2 models of the things, this link is the same as the cemont.
Schematic is on page 22.
