"Should I get": SIP migmate 100 + ELTO super 90 (£65 total)

Hi everyone. For sale near me are two welders:

> SIP migmate 100, half a can of gas, a fair bit of wire left on the roll.
> ELTO super 90 (20-90A), with a few dozen rods

The seller has asked for £65 for the pair.

You're probably fairly familiar with the SIP one, so I included some pics of the ELTO.

I mainly need to weld 3mm angle iron to itself, and also to pieces of bike frame.
Do you think these welders might do the job? I can only weld outside, I should add, so I'm not sure if the MIG one would be of any use.

Any thoughts?

Short answer......yes! :laughing:

£65 seems pretty good for both those machines and tbh, you'll get a fair chunk of that back if you decide to sell the SIP on

You should have no trouble welding 3mm angle with that ELTO as long as it's not massively long runs.
You can use a mig outside but you will have to rig up a windbreak of some sort and you'll have to up the gas flow to compensate for what will get blown away.

Thanks for the reply. It's kind of borderline, I reckon. You can get 160A arc welders for around £50 or even much less sometimes. This one's only 90A, though perhaps the low 20A minimum would prove useful one day. There's a SIP 140A arc welder about to end on eBay for under £15, hah. So this deal isn't amazing, but it could be worse, I suppose. I didn't mention but there's a junky hand-held face shield with it, but I'd get a better on, plus I'd need gloves.

For £65 I could almost get a "much better" arc welder, you see - instead of a poor arc welder and an alright budget MIG. I'd ask for £60, of course, but still...

I'll see if there's any other replies by thisevening, and then let the guy know.

I just had a look on the ELTO website, and what looks like the modern equivalent of the super 90 is the "easy 131": (http://www.elto.com/pdf/catalogo_inverter.pdf)

Sorry to fuss about it, but if there's any more opinions around I'd really appreciate them! I want to get back to the guy ASAP, within a few hours at the most. It's not that I don't trust Wozzaaah... I just want to hear what others think too

Blind leading the blind here but the SIP MIGS don't get very good write ups at all on here because of problems with the feed? You could be lucky but personally I'd rather invest £65 in a decent arc welder. Also u can use it straight out of the box relatively cheaply without messing about with gas. A wizarc for £15-30, safer bet if you ask me or hang on for an oil cooled. But then I know what it's like when you want to get out there and just get the damned thing...

Again, I'm no expert by any means so take that as you will, I'm still practising weld beads on my first welder; an arc inverter.

If that's an inverter arc you won't get much better for your money, more control and hot start are much better than the cheap transformers which stick and blow fuses (when I use them anyway)

Is it an inverter? I don't know, I didn't notice either way.

It doesn't look like an inverter as it has current adjustment handle on the front where you wind the "choke" in and out, and a knob to lock it in position on the top.

Well £20 is a nice and cheap introduction if it's crap. It should get you started, is immediately available and will give you an idea of what to look out for if you want to upgrade. You won't be doing more that 2.5mm rods at 90a and I'm assuming the duty cycle at the top end won't be very good but for £20 you get a quick intro to welding which is what you want right now.

I could do with another migmate mig welder....my garage door often blows closed on windy days and it would be perfect to keep the door open....but £65 seems expensive for a door stop!

Sorry...I should explain...I had a migmate as my first welder and it was awful!
