Just a quick note and a few pictures of my restoration project to date. Thanks to all your help and advice I am begining to make some good head way with my Nissan resto'
When I first started cutting metal away and found that amount of rust I did begin to wonder. Still, I have started now so I should try and finish it. Below are some of the early photo's. I still feel the shudder down my back just looking at them...
is it a import, i had a mr2 was a import a pure rotbox end up breaking it. my mate in cov has a black nissan 300 twinturbo model awsome machine keep up the good work mate.your welding thats good i wouldnt mind hiring you to do some work on the mini,
p.s only joking mate it,s just im too lazy to get off me **** in the cold and do anything lol
Hi Caveman, No it's not an import it is a UK Model. However, the story goes that under-seal and degree of cavity wax was not intended for the Great British Weather so the imported ones seem to be better off. This is because they will have spent a lot of their time in sunnier climbs. Some of the replacement floor sections I used I cut from a Import and were virtually rust free.
Thanks for the compliments and if there are any questions about the welding I have done so far just ask. I am no expert but I am more than willing to pass on what I have learnt so far.
Not a bad motor the 200. Pretty quick if I remember right. I have added a couple of more pictures of my recent progress. First attempt at upside down welding and also thin panel welding etc'
When I start cutting bits off it always amazes me that you can crumble the worst parts between your fingers yet right next to it there will be metal that looks like it just came from the factory, there's no logic to it's progress.
Thanks for continuing to post photos of your project. It's really helpful to see the steps you're taking. I have very little knowledge and with little experience it makes it much easier for me to understand.
welds look pritty good, im just in the process of learning to weld, how long did it take you and was it all self taught? What welder are you using? Wire size and gas mixture??
No problem Dinkum, If I can be of any help with my photo's for you and anyone else just ask. it will go a little way for me to show my appreciation to everyone on the forum who have helped me get to where I am with my project so far. Like you I have little knowledge with restoration welding and could not have acheived what I have so far without the help of the forum. Below are a couple of photo's of my progress today.
Hi Bradsarcher, I guess I have been welding bit by bit over the last 6 to 12 months, weather permitting. Apart from the great help from the forum it has all been self taught. With regards to the welder it is a Clarke 135te. As I have been using 20 guage sheet I have stuck with 0.6mm wire and have fluctuated between the 2 lowest power setting. As for gas flow I have been using about 10/12lpm (Argonshield light) depending on the wind. I hope this helps.

PS As the guy's and gals have said, be patient. If at first you don't succeed try again. it will come eventually.
Great welding. Great pictures. Very encouraging for all us beginners. I like your homemade car ramps, probably safer and easier to use than the bought ones. Have you done any welding near the petrol tank yet?
