Just seen these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....Track=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:middle:uk on evilbay. Is that a good price? Or can you do me a better (and safer?!) deal Weldequip. My state of the arc (oops freudian typo! I mean ark!) machine doesn't have a bottle gauge and the regulator looks like it was made by Noah. It also has a 'Argomiser' which is supposed to save gas when tack welding. Anyone know anything about these? I'll post some pics tomorrow.

If you are happy supporting child labour in some sweat shop in China go for it!, I can't get near it on a proper, British made industrial version.
An 'argosaver' basically cuts out the initial surge in gas when you first press the torch trigger, smoothing it out & reducing gas consumption.

Weldequip is right the reg is chinese and to save a few quid is not worth it, I have seen a chinese argon reg explode it could kill you, I only sell british made regulators

i bet he wasnt,it was scary enough when i saw a bottle of oxyger fall over the valve got snapped off! it did laps of the yard for about 5 mins!!!

Actually I'm not...(don't remember HughF getting a guilt trip about his Chinese plasma cutter - did you miss that post weldequip?

) nor do I particularly relish a Chinese expwosion, so thanks all for your opinions I'll delete that non PC item from my watch list. Maybe I'll just continue with what I have for now unless it gets annoying not knowing how much gas I have left (and if no-one thinks I'm crazy to continue with the archaic regulator)

Oddly enough, the British are still leaders in gas control equipment & the far eastern imports are direct copies. They do, of course, have to comply with certain safety standards before they can be released on to the market. Trouble is with China there is no consistant quality control, so the batch that was produced to comply with CE standards is not guaranteed to be the same item 6 month's down the line!
If you buy a British made regulator you have full come-back should it fail & take somebodies eye out. With a cheap import you would probably be into a legal wrangle with the wholesaler who in turn would be trying to sue the manufacturer - in vain! they have absoloutely no regard for international copyright so what makes you think they will honhour compensation claims?!
There is a hell of a lot of pressure in a gas cylinder & it needs to be regulated precisely & safely.

Mmmm.....wait a minute guys. If gauges have a 1yr gaurantee and they are British ........what ya gonna do if they blow up after the guarantee? I have Sappire gauges aplenty mostly second hand.........who`s gauranteeing them in an accident?.

Can you not remove one of those blanking plugs and just fit a bottle pressure gauge?

The 12 month warranty is a statutory requirement against faulty materials/workmanship. Outside that 12 months you are not covered if the regulator simply stops working, however, if it was to explode in somebodies face you are still covered due to design; at least with a reputable brand. Saffire & leading British brands have mulit-million pound insurance cover in place to cover this. Imported brands copy proven designs but use inferior materials & it has been proven that they don't do their job; most of them should not be for sale.

What's a blanking plug & what's a safety pressure releif valve?! I really cannot believe some of the corners you guys cut! Jesus H, you can buy a brand spanking new, precision engineered British regulator for sub 30 quid! If you can't afford that change your job!

All gauges should have a year of manufacture stamped on the back, they should be changed every 5 years regardless of there condition ( not me saying this the governing body) for the cost of a good quality gauge you will probably save more in gas because the valve and clocks will be more accurate

Now I'm worried - this thing is so ancient I can't even FIND a date but it has to be over 5 years..if not 15. Very annoying as I really am thinking of flogging it again as I nearly cry whenever I hear the name Portamig and think of how what could have been a beautiful relationship never even got started.

Stupid me. Anyone want to buy a Migatronic?
