Making a spiral

Hi,
Just in the process of roughing out a snow blower.
I have never made a helix before, I am thinking a DIY method would be
to make a "washer", cut it, then "pull" it apart maybe hydraulically.
Methinks this might have to be farmed out to a fabricator.
Anyone have suggestions how a helix can be done.?

Hello Howard,

they can be bought ready made, but basically what you suggest is how they are made then all welded together. I don't have any names to hand but just Google 'screw conveyor or auger conveyor manufacturers'

Its been discussed a few times on here, a true spiral is a 3d shape and cant be formed from a flat plate without some stretching and shrinking, Pressed flights, are a specialist manufacturer, I just buy them in, saves loads of time,

Totally off topic I know but I just followed this link out of curiosity and found on the home page a device which is designed to increase grass and straw drying times in one pass. Now I'm no farmer but should that be DECREASE?
