Blasting Turntable

Just got some Landrover wheels in to blast, and they're too heavy to manhandle easily on my bench, so I knocked this up from scrap lying around in my yard.

This is a Rover Metro rear hub asssembly with the backplate welded to a section cut out of a CO2 bottle. The two slots allow it to clip on to one of the lugs welded to my table. The piece of angle iron is welded on to the bottle and serves to spread the weight accross the table :-



The centre cut out of a Metro wheel fits nicely into the landrover wheel :-



I've also used this to blast small parts, using magnets to hold them in place.

Nice job Roger,do you normally leave the tyres on to blast?,is it difficult to remove media from around the bead afterwards,do you spray them as well? any tips on masking the tyre,sorry for all the questions

I prefer to have the tyres removed. I started a thread on this a while ago and concensus was it didn't really matter, as long as the tyres are inflated.

I don't spray them I just don't have the room to set up a spraybooth and the rules & regulations surrounding spraying makes it more trouble that it's worth. If someone approaches me to have wheels fully reconditioned I recommend they go to a specialist.

Thanks .....must have missed that previous thread,not too concerned with the rubber ,mechanical blasters used rubber sheeting ,but did wonder if the media would lodge in/under the rim and be akward to remove.....

I don't know must about blasting or how hard it hits the surface but a handy way of masking up for painting with the tyre on is to stick playing cards in between the wheel and tyre, you need loads of them though.

or just do the same with masking tape thats what wheel refurb guys do

Masking tape wouldn't stand a chance. I bet pieces cut out of a plastic milk bottle would be OK. I use cut down Coke bottles as protectors and they stand up very well.
