Sealey Mig welder, is it broken already?

Hi guys, first post here and a newbie welder.
I have recently purchased a SEALEY SIEGEN MIG WELDER 130 AMP - S0771, however after 5 mins of use it has just stopped working. I was just doing a few test welds with it to find the best settings, did a few spots of weld and that's it. Now there is no response from the trigger.
No arc and no wire feed, the only thing that is working is the fan.
I can't understand what I did as I was just using it as it should be. Surely a welder should be more robust than this?
I can't belive it's failed already, what a piece of junk and what a hassle, having bought it online. It's there anything I can check before sending it back?

Could be the thermal overload, is there a small LED lit up on the front of it? Leave it a while to cool down and try again, I would have hoped the duty cycle would be better than this, have you been using it on the top setting alot?

I wouldn't expect a thermal overload to cut in after just a few test welds but it may be a faulty thermal sensor. I had one fail on my butters mig and the light would sometimes be lit when I turned it on from cold.

I work / live in Barnard Castle and also spend alot of time at the family farm near Darlington, I'm a vet and the area we cover is pretty large, so have got up to Crrok a few times for work. long way from Wiltshire thou!

Yes, long way, lost touch with my family up there after my dad died. Hijack over, back to Ashy's dead Sealey.

Might be as simple as the torch trigger, trouble is if it's under warranty you'll have to be careful what you dismantle just in case you have to return it. Try firmly tapping the torch body around the trigger area, may just be a bad contact or a bit of something preventing the switch from contacting.

Cheers guys. Got the welder working. After thinking about the hassle of sending it back I decided to have a peak inside to see if I could see anything obvious. Couldn't see anything, not even a fuse (which I find unusual).
After about an hour of working out how these things work I decided to do a bit of fault finding with the multimeter. Checked the trigger first which was fine then the rectifier diodes which were ok too. I turned my attention to the control board.
There was 24 AC from the stepdown transformer going to the board when the trigger was pressed, but the rest of the board was dead apart from the relay which had 24v.

I traced the output from the trigger through the board and it turned out to be a bad solder joint. Resoldered it and hey presto. Well chuffed!

Infact the welder works quite well after getting use to the settings. Done loads of welding today and the thermal cut out hasn't kicked in once.

Cheers again. Off to do some more practice now.

another busted Siegen... Help please

Hi Ashy hope you can advise me on this

Great Forum this, ive only just found it :clapping:

A mate has passed me his dead welder, a Siegen Power Mini Mig 130 and ive managed to get it to switch on again but as soon as I press the trigger it trips out at the mains. No sound of the wire motor either- how do I test this is ok and not burned out?

Ive had a feel around with the multimeter on the board but its beyond me.

On the circuit board is a black box with 2 wires, if I disconnect these and press the trigger it doesnt trip out so im guessing this is part of the problem. Can you offer any help here at all as im really stuck and dont know where else to get some help?

Sounds like the diodes have gone ,dead short.
Could be something else, but it's what I would check first.

Sorry, whats the diodes and where are they, what do they look like?

Im really not good at this electronic circuit stuff but from what you say I should be able to find the fault

Hi ashy i seem to have the exact problem as you is there any chance you could take a photo of where you had to re-solder so i could perhaps copy you thanks
