Sealey Siegen any good?

Firstly, I have been reading many of the articles for a while on this forum but never posted till now. I have had some practice at mig and want to weld bits on my old lambretta and hope to get another to do up or a classic car, so I dont really feel i want anything above a 135amp gas mig yet.

Saw this on ebay: Sealey Siegen Mini MIG Welder 130 Amp 230V S0771 SO771

and the same sort here

What i want to know is are they any good. I have a small budget and this price is about as far as it goes. Will they last - and do the job?

One of the members recently bought one, really didn't like it, ended up sending it back & buying a Clarke from me.
He was much happier with the Clarke.
Forget which member sorry, but if he picks up on this thread you might get it from the horse's mouth.

Problems with the wire feed I think. The usual Sealey stuff is not too bad but I think those Seigen branded sets are Chinese :rolleyes:

No the decent makes are Italian (in the hobby ranges).

Any of the Clarke range are good; 135TE, 151TE, 151EN... all depends on budget really. For the sake of 20 or 30 quid I would spend that bit extra & get it right first time

I think the siegen range might come back and bite sealey in the rear, wouldn't be suprised if they don't drop them within a year, or watch there reputation go down the pan

are they really that bad?
how can they get something so wrong, they must trial these before they go out for sale, or is the Chinese using inferior metals/workmanship?

I was think of the 135TE I want one that I can use small gas bottles on, i take it this does? I dont see i am going ot be doing lots of welding as a scooter vs a car is a tad smaller

but i may want to make up tools and a stand, i would say the thickness is going to be no more than 3mm - would the 135te be the best option here?

As for the price they ridiculously cheap, but that also worries me.

I think you are answering all your own questions there Drew. Go for the Clarke... well proven amongst the forum members + I can give you a decent price
