Can you identify this little MIG? IDEAL 120 / N

Has ANYone here ever seen a welder like this?

Its Old.... Used to work great until.....

The wire feed circuit board is *snif* .... dead.

What I really am hoping for is someone on this forum will see this and say " I got just the part you need." Well, besides me buying a new welder.

Its an old SIP Ideal 120N, fixed one for a friend, SIP had no spares only info.

I have attached the diagrams, repair should be possible the circuit is simple, or as the PCB is just the wire feed it should be possible to replace it with standard DC motor controller, I cannot remember if the motor was 24V or 48V.

I had a problem with my Sip Ideal 120/n - the wire motor got stuck on maxium - made welding tricky!

Thanks to this circuit, I ordered all the bits from RS for under 20 quid - replaced pretty much everything on the board - it's now working again.

Another problem I found was that where the earth strap bolts to the chasis on the inside, a plastic-coated nut is used on the inside (for electrical insulation purposes), but over time, the connection had obviously gone up a bit in resistance, and was melting the plastic - to the extend that it was starting to short on the inner case, thus raising the temp further - a bit of lexan with a hole dirlled in fixed it better than it was new.

It's miles better now, but still not quite right.

I notice that when the wire clamp is disengaged, and just looking/listening to the free-running motor speed, changes a bit - any ideas? Sticky gear box?

Also, the linier is a bit rusty.

Anyone know what the voltages should be on the various settings (roughty)?

Open circuit voltage range Min 18V Max 32.

Check and clean all the connections in the welder, also check the main contactor, connection can and do degrade, the welder will be around 20 yrs old.

Moving to the feed motor, only do the following if there is still a problem after the above checks, the grease may need replacing in the gearbox if it is dry - IMPORTANT take care with the feed motor as spares are not available.
Lastly if the brushes are removable check them one at a time the should be clean and free to silde in the holder, NOTE you must re-fit the brush the same way around as it was removed (they will run the other way around but at the expense of some wear).
