With my love of free heat and wood burning stoves I go through a lot of wood. After receiving around 10 ton of wood many years ago and splitting it by hand I decided to build a log splitter.
I used a ram from the backactor on a JCB,an offcut 152 X 152 beam a spool valve from a potato planter which I found when purchasing a set of rollers it was partly buried at the farm that I picked the rollers up from. I put new seals on the pistons and a set of rear hubs from a ford fiesta. The oil tank is the axle for the wheels. You can split the logs horisontaly or drop the beam and split on the vertical.A weeks cutting and splitting and stacking will give you a years burning.Forgot about the power it is run using a briggs and stratton petrol enging which has a pump attached to that bought from Northern tools in Florida the pump and attachment cost £57.00 Northern tools here do not supply the unit.
