Swage - Joggler

I thought you may be interested in a swage we have made - now I have to see if i can load a photo!
Well that seemed to work!
The gears came out of a bike gear box, the blocks are cast iron threaded and bolted from the back. the oil tank shows what it does. I will make other tools (joggler wheels) as and when I need them.

Very nice. Bike as in motorcycle, I guess. Any plans? How thick is the backplate? How are the wheels keyed to the shafts?

Nice bit of kit you've made there, what sort of throat depth does it have ?

No Plans - the gears are welded to the shafts back plate is 18mm which I had lazer cut to form the slot - it has about 500mm throat.

Hi Tank ok but I am never happy with my alloy welding - I cant seem to be as consistant as i would like - will have to keep practising!

That's pretty substantial. I've been thinking of a little bead roller, which -- I guess -- is very like a mini swage. (Although they seem to cost about the same or more. But that thing is a really useful size -- can't be many jobs where you'd need to put a swage line in a panel bigger than 1 metre.

we milled a keyway in the shafts and use a grub screw in the wheels to locate them. It was made that size not because we need a throat that long at the moment but it seemed that it was as much work to make a small one!

Nicely done! One of these days i've got to get around to modifiying a small swage roller i was recently given so that it'll roll hose retention beads into small diameter tube

This is just what i have been looking at doing, helps me to visualise what i need to do. Looks great, off to the drawing board now........

I did an autocad drawing of an old one of mine some years ago, no idea where the drawing is but stuff like this is simple enough to make. I knocked this up when I did my first racecar interior and used it for many years for joddeling the edges of panel repair sections. I was using two of the gears off my old lathe and the handle off the lathe, when the lathe went for scrap I didn't think about the parts till I saw the lorry go down the road.

If you want to bead pipe you should try something with shorter well supported shafts, this one isn't that good but works. The gears are out of a montego starter and it beadspipe down to just under an inch ID.

You can probablt tell I don't buy the steel for stuff like this I just dig in the scrap till a suitable bit pops out.

I remember seeing plans for one of these in an old American Rodder mag.Looks like I,m going to have to go to the attic for a rumage.
