Sandblaster Safety Mod

This simple modification makes sure you de-pressurise the pot before romoving the filler cap.

The ball valve replaces the pressure gauge (which had become faulty). There is a pressure gauge on the regulator anyway.

In the closed position the lever of the ball valve obstructs the handle on the filler cap, so you have to open the valve, and thus release the pressure, before you can unscrew the filler cap.

Having just bought a 20 Gallon Sandblaster, what is the correct procedure for safely removing the Top to refill during Blasting?
There are a lot of Air Levers fitted to the unit!

Cut the air supply and make sure the nozzle valve and bypass are fully open. As a precaution I pull the drain cock on the filter bowl, if there is no air in the system it should move down slightly under spring pressure. You can hear it hiss slightly as the pressure drops to near zero.

The only thing i would do with this great mod is make it so it pointed downwards Rather than into face but that might not be an issue.

Turning a problem into a feature, when you open the valve it dislodges all the grit that found its way onto the rafters!

Actually that's a good point, in operation I'm not standing over the valve and I open it gently anyway. I may add an elbow so it points away from the operator.

An unforseen benefit of this is that with the valve open the pot fills quicker as the air escapes out of the valve instead of having to fight its way past the media in the funnel.
