Here is a project that I built when I had my CNC Machine set up as a CNC Wood Router.
It is a Dust extractor that uses a 'Cyclone' Technique to capture fine dust.
Don't let the Heath Robinson Look put you off!
You will see that I have a Clarke Dust extractor that works fine, but the bags only filter to about 4 or 5 microns.
If you are cutting MDF the dust can be less than 2 microns so it can escape back out into the air.
MDF Dust is very nasty stuff so I built the Cyclone to filter it out.
If you look at the photo you will see the Black pipe on the left is where the dust enters the contraption
The Beer Brewing Bucket has been fitted with a 'Screw' that directs the dust flow around and downwards creating a Cyclone just like those Bagless Vacuum cleaners.
As the cyclone goes downwards it goes into the funnel, which is an old Traffic Cone that I found lying in the road.....
When the cycloned dust hits the funnel it accelerates it downwards into the collecting Brewing bucket underneath
The Silver flexible hose coming out of the top only goes into top section by about 6" and the dust is so far down the contraption that it can not return upwards.
The Silver Pipe then goes into the Clarke Dust Extractor
You would be amazed at how well this Heath Robinson system works
I have emptied the bottom bucket (almost brim full each time) a dozen times, and the dust bags on the Clarke extractor have remained completely empty without one spot of dust!
Hope this might help somebody, there is information on the 'Net about building one of these for those interested
Mine cost about £10 (for the Brewing Buckets) or you can buy a professional one for about £400+
