Advice re broken wire speed controller

Hi all.. I am a newbie and need some help please.. spent ages looking through posts to get some help with a broken wire control pot.. its a Migmate SIP 35-100 amp.

I bought it on ebay and got it home to find that the wire speed control knob was broken and glued on..(typical bodge...) the whole wire speed potentiometer has been damaged (its jammed) and I need to replace it. I need to make sure I am doing the right thing.

The circuit board says Mig 01

Here is my question:

I believe the wire speed controller is a 1k variable potentiometer.. is that right? (too much rust on the one on the back of the potentiometer to make out what it is).. should this be swapped with a 100 ohm variable potentiometer?.. any help and advice greatly appreciated. Thank you.

if you measure between the two outside contacts that will give you the valve for the pot.

Unfortunatley I don't have a measuring device.. was wondering what the standard pot resistance was on these boards.. Migmate Sip.. 35amp-100amp.. I have read somewhere they are 1k, and should be replaced with 100 ohm to make them less sensitive and more adjustable...

Any marking on the pot? I have seen references to 2.2k (would have a # 222 on it or 2K2

The smaller trimmer is the one to replace with 100 from 1k.

The main wire feed speed adjustment pot is probably a 2K pot

The trimmer which is a much smaller pot with a screwdriver adjustment slot is normally a 1K pot which can be swapped out for a far more sensitive 100 Ohm one

Take a picture of your board and attach it here and I'm sure people will help you identify the components

Meantime the large silver Pot shown in the pic attached is the main wire feed speed control (Marked 2K2)

The smaller Blue item in the corner of the board is the trim pot (Marked 220)

Sorry about the bad pics.. need a new camera.. its the large wire speed control pot I need to replace.. just need an idea of what the resistance range is.. the welder is a SIP migmatic 35amp -100amp. I really appreciate your help guys. thanks. Malcolm

My money is on 2K

In fact if you PM me your address details I'll stick my old SIP one in the post to you (only used for a short time till I upgraded to a multi turn one which required other modifications so not an ideal option for you now)

They have a slightly longer stick out as they are used to hold the board to the case and are hard to match - hence why I ended up spacing out my PCB and mounting the 10 turn pot to the front case removing the original and then soldering fly lines from pot to board - and thats why I have a spare one

Came across this on ebay is this what can replace the smaller trim pot? I have read the ones on the SIPS are too sensitive.. its cheap and could help a lot of people out? ebay: 120125349278

Ian .. any idea of what the wattage should be on the 100 ohm trim pots please.. ? I can get some which are 0.3 watts.. Malcolm
