Its suprising that angle grinders are relatively cheap compared to other tools.
A Makita grinder @ £49
A Makita cordless drill @ £170
Maybe its because the cordless drill is portable and costs more.
I think Dewalt and Makita are similar in quality with Makita usually being maybe 5% cheaper for a like for like spec tool, and at least a lot of Makita is made in the UK, Jap design however.
I honestly think the Japanese are on the whole better engineers now than the Germans.
Japanese cars usually tend to be more reliable than German, problem is their design is some what off putting to a lot of people, but underneath the skin its all going on.
Put it this way I'd rather in be a Toyota Land Cruiser during the middle of summer in the Australian dessert than a BMW 4x4
