....aha, so the 986 are TIG brazing rods - I thought so!Very few rods are available for Brazing with TIG. The must common are SIF No8 (C11) and 968
AC or DC. Blunted electrode, around 75% ampage
Just looking at that listing in your screengrab - is that the price per rod or the price of the bundle pictured?? I remember them being pretty expensive (as mentioned by Decal).I already have an AC DC tig welder with Argon gas. I will soon have a small Oxygen and Mapp burner set too.
For TIG brazing can I use my standard tig torch OK?
And do I need rods only or flux powder too? For filling in holes in cast items etc.

Tig brazing rods don't have zinc in them and are much more expensive.
If you want to try tig brazing without spending much (any) cash, copper from twin and earth electrical cable works well.
I wouldn't use it on a nuclear reactor but it's pretty good for playing about.

1.6, unless the workpiece is heavy, the bigger dia rods require too much heat to fuse, causing the parent metal to become moltenWhat's the best general use size: 1.6, 2.4 or 3.2?
Definetely not .6mm. In the early days of ebay I bought a roll of 968 mig wire.1.6, unless the workpiece is heavy, the bigger dia rods require too much heat to fuse, causing the parent metal to become molten
