Bench Grinder Mount

At the moment my two bench grinders and drill press sit on a 2.5ft x 4.5ft steel topped work bench which is a horrible waste of a bench and possibly an even bigger waste of space.

In order to partially remedy this situation I've decided to make up a pair of wall mounting brackets for the bench grinders and will be doing some type of tripod stand for the drill.

I've seen similar mounts before but why buy something in when you could spend the time making it yourself?


I would have liked to cut the net out in on piece but as my folder doesn't have removable fingers so I split the two side gussets and made it in three pieces.


Fortunately everything slotted together nicely once it was all folded up.


Here's one down. The joints were nice and tight so I just ran the TIG torch down them and fused the pieces together. Now onto the second mount and the drill press stand.

I see you have discovered the downside steel benches

They suck the heat out of tea very quickly unless you stick the tea cup on a soap piece of plywood

Give that grinder a decent coat of paint it will look excellent

Metal paint kettles are good for this. Just bend a point on the handle and hang on a bolt. Easy to clean and fill.

I have the same one, its in mint condition but a few bits are missing I think one end cap and a tool rest so let me know if you have any spares

I have the same one as well, Wolf 6". I saw it had a carry handle so I thought hey, no problem I can walk with this home. 30 minutes later and a red line across my fingers that took two days to go away haha... Heavy little blighter, but that's good for a grinder. Not for a suitcase.

When I couldn't have my grinder stuck down I had it on an L shaped piece of wood. A wood vice clamped it to the bench when needed

Some how this one is actually runs significantly smoother than my later wolf grinder that's fitted with a stone and wire wheel. That said I will probably be pulling the buffing wheels off and replacing it with a dedicated stone for TIG rods.

No spares for this one unfortunately. The older Wolf stuff seems hard to come by these days.

I welded up the 2nd bench grinder mount and built a drill press stand from 30MM box and angle.
I cut a cut every 5MM in one side of the angle to get the curve around the back. In hi insight it would have been far quicker to cut the curve with the plasma and then weld on a piece of flat to make the 90 but we live and learn.




They both got a nice coat of red to match the other equipment I've made before being mounted in their new home.



Now to get back to sheet metal work.

Quite right, I use an old take away dish under the wheel, quenches and collects most of the dust at the same time. Amazing how much cleaner it keeps the garage.

Neatly done. I would have thought electrical work was next!

If you wern't planning to already, a shelf on the drill stand will be a godsend for putting the drill vice on when not using it.

It's a standard set of mini front end panels welded together and widened by 12". One day I'll get round to finishing it.
