Would this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Foot-Peda...4?pt=Sanders_Sandblasters&hash=item2c8f6eab7e be any use as a shut off valve from blast pot to cabinet?.

jthe reason is u cant effectively cut the air in the blast pipe while grit is traveling along . nipping it or restriction the hose wouldnt last 5 minutesJust that if one was available it would be convenient, as the parts I blast often need some manipulating, handy to be able to cut supply, as you say shutting off the air no good. Surprised there isn't one about.
I don't bother. The grit isn't going anywhere with a cabinet, I just switch the air off at the inlet to the pot. You could put the footswitch in the air feed to the pot, but it will take time to run down and build up.
...........
To get an almost instant drop in pressure in the pot you need to use the valve above with a quick exhaust valve to quickly exhaust the air form the pot. ..........
Thanks all for your help, seems like I may just use a ball valve. When time permits I may even try to control the valve with some sort of spring loaded foot pedal. You guys are more up to this than my humble self
