Boc rental again!!

Hi all,
Am i understanding this right,if i want to rent an X size argoshield light are the costs £4.55 mnth/£44.05 yr + vat then £23.95 per cylinder gas charge +vat and £10.35 +vat changeover.

So £44.05 +
£23.95 +
£10.95

£78.95+vat initial cost? then £4.55 a month rental?


Or have a totally misread and cocked that up??

It'll be £78.95 + VAT for a year's rental with a fill.

Oh right,so is it just £78.95+Vat one off payment a year (+ refills),is there not a monthly rental charge aswell?

I know someone has published the full X size rental breakdown on here but i cant find the right thread!

I printed that off,i just wanted to confirm i had read it right and not cocked up my costings before i go and plead at the feet of the missus!

I should have scanned in the reverse of that sheet too - it has details about what you pay when. The monthly option is by prior arrangement and is more expensive with less options for pro-rata refunds.

I decided size Y was more economical for my one a year habit.
X: £44.05 yearly rental, then £23.95 for a fill plus £10.35 service charge
Y: £56.25 rental, £31.90 fill, and £10.35 service charge.
All plus VAT!

Size Y holds about 3 times more gas than size X, so for the size X bottle to work out cheaper you'd need to make sure you don't get through a size X bottle any more than once every 20 months. I've done the sums! That doesn't include the hassle of getting the bottles swapped.

A size X bottle holds 2300L which works out at about 40m of weld on car thickness, so the break even point where size X and Y are comparable in cost is around 70mm welding per day.

Tell the missus the cost saving equates to a new pair of shoes every 3 years. (Haven't done the sums for that, but could be a good way to get the budget signed off ).

So lets see if i get this right, an x size is £44.50+VAT a year basic rental then 39.79 inc per refill?

That's spot on apart from the VAT on the service charge. Refill works out at about £40.50 (closed my calculator before posting).

Not as bad as i thought,i think the x size might be better for me at first until i start doing more work.
