British Made 'New Wonder' Electric Saw

Hi folks, Today on one of my regular visits to the local scrap yard I spotted this old electric saw. The owner of the place said it is working and that he bought it from someone who got it at an auction. The scrap dealer's asking price for it is €200. Is it worth that much? it has a round plug on it with four round pins, one of the pins is larger than the other 3. The table can be tilted to give angled cuts. I was told that a file could be attached in place of the blade. I've never seen anything like it before.

Wouldn't even buy it for that price complete - and it looks like it's missing parts/been bodged to take hacksaw blades. Doesn't look the sturdiest of things either - no visible mounting bolts, looks the kind of thing that might like to jump about when turned on!

It's a die filer I think, the hacksaw blade isn't original, it should have a file (Not any old file, it needs to cut on the down stroke so the tang is the wrong end on a hand file).

Certainly looks like quality but not in that state.

Could be a useful bit of kit if it was at the right price & restored to its former glory.

Sawing machines like this have the blade the other way. (like a bandsaw)

I would value it at £50-£80 but if you really want a die filing machine, you have to pay what the seller is asking or wait for another one to turn up.

They are rare because frankly, they're not that useful for general purpose workshop use. You can literally just use a file...

Do die filers usually have a top arm? I seem to recall the odd ones I've seen holding the file by the stem only, with no overarm support. I'm inclined to go with the other suggestion of a fret/scroll saw.

its a good substantial saw just not worth anything near the price. if I really wanted one id give 80 quid Topps for it

they can be used with saw blades or files I made a smaller version of one . gave it away to someone who wanted one as I hardly had any use for it

Thanks everyone. I had no idea what it was until I posted here. Having now watched a few youtube clips I can see that I would have no use for it. Is 'New Wonder' some sort of brand name? I've never seen it on anything else.
