car rotisserie/spit thing

this was made a while back after being told by the bead blaster i need to scrape all the seam sealer and underseal off before blasting and didn`t really relish the thought or lying underneath while doing it...

the main bits are 80x80x8mm box section link bar is 50x50x3 pivot pins are 40mm dia solid bar and the rotating sections that fit onto shell are 60x40x3..

the MIG welding was carried out by "thirdtimeluckyfabricator" as quite frankly i bleedin hate mig welding...

to make it easier to lock it off at various rotation pints i drew up a disc on cad and had it laser cut out of 10mm steel..

not shown in the pic but now added is a bar with 2 rose joints 1 on the min upright 1 that bolts to the disc...






if only it made scraping french tin easier......

haha aye.. my ol chap used to run his own workshop so i`m very fortunate in having the run of the garage now...

i even had enough 50x50 box left over to make a stand for my gearbox...

Hi,

I'd guess you'd decide on the fixing points...front and rear bumper mounting holes, pehaps.

Then measure from the centre of that point to the joint between the roof and sides, and allow a bit extra so it clears the ground.

stigger- sory mate only just seen your question..

as already metioned i made the sections that fix onto the shell, bolted them up and then eyeball`d with a tape measure the distance to the potential lowest point once spun..

in my case it was the top edge of the roof...

i added a few inchs and crossed my fingers the first time i spun it over...

aye they make working on the shell sooooooo much easier and are a real space saver compared to the type that you bolt on and roll the shellonto its side...

it was a bit top heavy as i took a total guess where to put the pivot...

i could have made a couple of drop platse to lower the pivot further down but it wasn`t anything that couldn`t be done with a good heave....

CG is important, have 30 + stitches to prove it.
Years ago doing a MK2 Escort shell did all the 4 link boxes seam welded, cage, spinning the shell round no problem paint the underneath, fit axle then like a pratt holding with one hand pulled the pin, weight came over center, hand now attached to sharp object!! weight keeps rolling till it cut the palm of hand into a nice flap, could see the nerves & ligaments for 3 fingers & as I said 30+ stitches & 2 month till I could use hand, Another half mm. deeper a it would have been serious surgery on nerves & ligaments.
Was one of those stupid accidents, it all ways turned roof down before I messed up.
