Clarke 160TM swan neck

Hi folks, my first post here but i have been lurking and reading all the advice and information.

I recently bought a Clarke 160TM welder (one that appears to be highly regarded as a decent entry level machine by the people on here and i am not dissapointed) my only issue is that i melted a tip (my bad!) and made the silly mistake of removing it when it was hot and ive distorted the thread so i need a new swanneck.... now heres my issue, as i bought it from the clarke industrial range of welders i presumed it would have an industrial swan neck given that it takes the industrial range of tips and shrouds, so i got a replacement swan neck and it doesnt fit!

after a bit of looking around im still non the wiser, it looks a bit like the hobby swanneck on sale from weldequip but the proportions at the end are all wrong

heres the one on the weldequip site

and heres a picture of the one that I have, the ends are very much different
mine is the top and the bottom one is the industrial neck i bought in error,

as you can see the proportion around the shroud area is different from the 'hobby' type on weldequip yet the other end is the same where it goes into the gas valve, conversely the shroud end looks the same as the industrial swanneck but the other end is completely different... have i bought frankewelder! The part number that I need is apparently 23005077.


im a bit confused by the whole thing really but i want to get back to learning techniques ASAP!

Run a M6 tap down the one you have and try it again.

Thanks pedro, i wasnt sure what thread the tip was, presumed it was some obscure pipethread. Ill try a tap tomorrow.


Im a bit annoyed that machine mart appear to sell spare swan necks for all the machines they sell, apart from the one they sold me a few weeks ago!

From there catalog item 32 as there web version does not have a pic note part number different than what you have posted

Hi mike, I took the swan neck into machine mart and its a different one that needs ordering from spares dept. I ran an m6 tap down it as pedro suggested and its fixed it right up, been happily welding away all day, im getting better!
