Picked this up today, then started to give it a refurb. The oil and air filter where a bit murky but all serviceable, very nicely made and heavy !! I found a bit of info about the maker from this site and have seen they used bristol for dive pumps and small tanked spray units but does anyone know more about them ?

also the crankcase breather is just a drilled aluminium disc which had been letting in dust what was originally in place a mesh or organic filter?

I really like the ball race on the crank journal. Kept well lubricated and with regular oil changes that part at least should last a lifetime. The rest of it as well if it's made to the same standard.

Hi Jan, yeah its well made for sure, the actual bearing is "Made in England" i was quite surprised as to how simple the crank stop was. There a little brass dipper or drain at the bottom too i think it just allows it to pull oil through. Yeah i don think the previous owner was too bothered about maintence but it was in fairly clean oil and at quite a depth so all the crap sunk to the bottom.

It run really quietly and has boosted my CFM too so I'm pleased all round. Only got it running a couple of days ago because i had to wait for a new belt as my bmw alternator belt just didn't have the grip past about 30psi

just bought another compressor - another bristol/broomwade 2x1

haven't bought it home yet but it runs and was owned by a 98year old bike racer for the majority of its life. I was going to just remove the motor and pump but having seen it I'm tempted to restore it
