Hello, I have a railing job coming up which would likely be 40x10 flat top & bottom, with 16mm round or 16mm square verticals at the usual >100mm intervals. It's for a private house, no young kids but do have some big dogs.
Is it common for ERW to be used for the verticals? I've never used the stuff before but it strikes me as it could be a way to save weight (bad back) & material cost.
I never get my work galved + powder coated, it's always blasted, zinc flame sprayed + vinyl top coated, so no worries on the hollow section exploding.
Main concerns are material strength & am I likely to burn through the thin wall often, making the job take more time overall & making the material saving a false economy? Clearly I'd be running MIG, not attempting to stick weld them with 3.2 rods.
Thanks for any advice.
