I saw an ultrasonic bottle breaker on 'It's hard to be green' or something like that, with Dick Strawbridge, and thought that was a great idea then. He used the bits as a thermal store for the greenhouse.
This would certainly keep the recycling bin less full.
?What is the blade?
Could do with a guard over the bin and the top of the inlet.

The blade's just a lump of angle iron welded to the shaft, it's no big deal when it wears out.
There's a 1.5m drop into the cylinder, that's what the grey pipe is.
I've just de-commissioned it as the price of grit doesn't make it worthwhile anymore, but I had plans for a cover, no-volts release and a dead-man's handle.
I remember that Dick Strawbridge thing, the firm's gone bust unfortunately.

Strawbridge , along with his family, have filmed three series of It's Not Easy Being Green for BBC Two. In series one, which was shown on 28 March 2006, the family moved to a new home near St Austell, Cornwall and attempted to live as green a life as possible, using renewable energy and environmentally friendly resources. The second series started in Spring 2007 with a different format: Strawbridge and his son James aided several members of the public in larger and smaller ecology projects around the country.[citation needed]

So which parts came from a Metro?
The belt and pulley. I was going to use a brake drum as a flywheel - sometimes it stalls or throws the belt on big lumps of glass, such as some wine bottle bottoms.

I remember seeing the Dick Strawbridge programme you mention. He hired the bottle breaker and got his son to go to the local pub to get their empty bottles. Since his programme I have seached on a few occasions (that is how I found your post on this forum), to find one I could hire but have never come across one.
