Anyone know if hand wheels like this are available separately from the rest of the valve? - I'm on the look-out for one for an idea I've had

ive seen the smaller ones in plumb centers for sale but thats a 1"1/2 valve there so the wheel on it is going to be bigger.

whats the plan, that is if it isnt top secret of course..

Try an old style plumbers' merchants. The larger cast wheels are available separately (leastways they used to be!) but I think they're about £15 each. Have you got a scrap metal recycler's nearby, some of them will let you have a mooch and anybody weighing in brass might be likely to remove any ferrous for a better price - well that's how it works around here anyway.
I'm thinking someone in this community has a box full of bits under a bench with just the thing you're looking for................
This idea, hasn't got anything to do with Steampunk has it? Or must it remain a secret?

It doesn't need to be a specific size. No big secret, I'm planning to mod my gas bottle key for easier use.

Must have used all my storage cos can't upload pic but it's only a smallish one, bout 55mm across flat type but if that will do the job for ya then it's yours

Ah Ya welcome @slim_boy_fat glad it was of use to you. Nice job like the idea ..... Might look into something similar myself once I've moved house. Want to put my bottles into a permanent position with remote gauges if this is doable

Not used it yet, used the old key to shut off so I could get on with dressing this one. I'll report back when I've tried it.

Tried it this morning - it works, but requires a little more input than the original key, as you would expect.

No more sore knuckles.......

I chop the handle off the key, and then weld both bit's to a bit of tube a few inches long, it just needs to be long enough for the key and my hand to clear the cylinder shroud..
