after talking to the resident toolmaker in work today about looking for a bigger lathe to replace my little chester, he told me that when the factory moves in February they are flogging all of his current kit and buying him new equipment to go in his new toolroom.
one of the bits of kit that they are selling off is a complete hardinge lathe in mint condition.
it has 2 speed ranges selected by lever, and speed rate is controlled with a knob. all thread pitches selected with one lever, feed rate is adjustable via a dial and it has in-built collet system, 3 jaw and 4 jaw chucks, 2 faceplates, live centres, about 6 different steadies, a dividing head included and a box full of tooling that includes indexable stuff, thread cutting stuff, inner and outer radius tools and comes with both a 3 phase motor that is currently installed and a single phase 2hp motor that is a direct replacement for the current one.
I have used it plenty of times and its a joy to turn on. no backlash at all (re-conditiond a few months ago) very quiet and no vibration.
the cost of this lathe...£200 all in including the use of a works van to get it home...
needless to say I have bookmarked it and put a £50 deposit down on it to secure it
just gotta wait till mid feb now to bring it home
