Replaced two x schottky diodes, a resistor and a capacitor. 1.5 hours to re-assemble the unit (glad I video'd the disassembly!) - took it to the garage, plugged it in and... it didn't work!
I hadn't put the amp adjustment cable in properly - re-seated it, and it only flippin' works!

Aye - most likely! If I hadn't believed there was another one winging surfing it's way over the water then there's no way I'd have gone inside this one. Still - you can never have too many plasma cutters, can you?

If the other one turns up I may try my hand at knocking together a DIY CNC with one of them...

I hope the petrol lawn mower is further away than it looks in the video - I imagine it could have got a bit scary if one of those sparks went on the tank!

Cheers, guys! It's a complex beastie, internally - way more electrikeral than my welder, that's for sure.
It was good news that it was the hi-frequency/hi-voltage board that was by far the simplest board, and complied with my 30 year out-of-date electronics experience. If it had been one of the other boards then I wouldn't have been so confident.

Hah! That brings back memories the last LOGO turtle I played with was made from perspex so I doubt that would be a good base for a plasma cutter!

Cheers - my confidence was at ~10% when I took it out to the garage. Then it dropped to 0% when it wouldn't spark up - until I realised I hadn't plugged the amp control lead on properly!

Don't worry - I'm a big fan of not having a petrol fire between me and the only exit from the garage! The view from the gopro was somewhat distorted and the Etesia (great lawnmower!) was around 10ft away.
